Gold plated ring – how to find your ring size at home

How to Find Your Ring Size at Home (UK & US Size Chart)

Ordering a ring online is easy once you know your size – and you can find it at home in a couple of minutes with a ruler. Here are two simple methods, plus a size chart.

Method 1: Measure a ring you already own

  1. Choose a ring that fits the finger you want to wear the new ring on.
  2. Place it flat on a ruler.
  3. Measure the inside diameter in millimetres – from one inner edge to the other, across the widest point.
  4. Find the closest diameter in the chart below.

Method 2: Measure your finger

  1. Wrap a thin strip of paper or a piece of string around the base of your finger.
  2. Mark the point where the ends meet.
  3. Lay it flat and measure the length in millimetres – this is your circumference.
  4. Find the closest circumference in the chart below.

Ring size chart

UK size US size Inner diameter Inner circumference

N½ 7 17.3 mm 54.4 mm
P½ 8 18.1 mm 57.0 mm
R½ 9 18.9 mm 59.5 mm
T½ 10 19.8 mm 62.1 mm

Our sized rings are available from UK J½ to R½ (US 5 to 9). You'll also find this chart in our Ring Size Guide.

Tips for an accurate measurement

  • Measure at the end of the day. Fingers are usually slightly bigger in the evening and in warm weather.
  • Avoid measuring when you're cold, as fingers shrink.
  • Check it fits over the knuckle. If your knuckle is wider than the base of your finger, measure both and choose a size in between.
  • Use paper rather than stretchy string, which can give a smaller reading.
  • Between two sizes? Go for the larger one, especially for wider bands.
  • Dominant hand: fingers on your writing hand are often slightly larger.

Still not sure? Choose an adjustable ring

Most of our rings are adjustable, with an open band that fits most fingers comfortably. They're the easiest option for gifts, or if you like to move rings between fingers. Shop adjustable rings or sized rings, or browse all waterproof rings.
